![]() DotInCircle Newsletter 06 July 2009 This week we feature: The connection between Insomnia and Depression Hair Care IS Energy Field Care Case Study: Joe's healing from Attention Deficit Disorder The connection between Insomnia and Depression Is there a connection between Insomnia and Depression? Yes, if the depression is indeed clinical depression and not emotional sadness or hopelessness. When we are emotionally sad and feeling hopeless, we often mistake that for depression. It's not. Its natural for life to go downhill every now and then, and it is in response to hard and difficult times that we are challenged to bring out a part of us that was hidden before, to survive and overcome. This is natural. Real depression is a disorder of the pain/pleasure management system in our brains - also called the 'endocrine axis' of the three endocrine glands - the Hypothalamus, the Pituitary and the Pineal glands. Of these, the first, the Hypothalamus receives information from the sense organs (for egg. how cold is it, how rough or smooth this surface is etc.). The second, the Pituitary interprets this information and orders the body to react by releasing certain substances called hormones. These substances cause us to feel pleasure, retain water, feel more active or inactive and so on. The third gland - the Pineal gland is really small in size compared to the other two but it is very important. The Pineal gland releases the hormone melatonin that causes the nervous system to feel sleepy. If it releases too much of it, we feel more sleepy and our overall cell metabolism slows down. This means we feel less active, less rested, our digestion is more sluggish and we retain more fat than burn it. It means we need to sleep a lot more but don't seem satisfied anyway, and end up being tired all day long. Physical energy reserves are really low and we need constant 'charging' to keep going through the day. If the Pineal gland releases less melatonin, it means a state of nervous exhaustion because of the nerves being high-strung and alert more often than rested. It also means serious problems falling asleep and staying asleep. Either way, an imbalance in the working of these three glands causes serious depression. This is because if either of these glands doesn't do its job well enough, our brain is confused and we get a 'blank' response instead of pleasure or pain. If you suffer chronic depression and this is usually accompanied by sleeping problems - either difficulty in falling asleep, or you are unable to feel fresh even after sleeping 7-8 hours or more, it means the area of the imbalance is most probably the Pineal Gland. The surest way to know if you have a Pineal Gland imbalance is if you are struggling with psychic or dream experiences. If you have visions or dreams that leave you feeling tired instead of clear headed and inspired, OR you used to have dreams and psychic visions which you don't anymore, OR you have unclear extreme 'sensing' of places and people and so on. How to heal Depression that is caused by the Pineal Gland being over-active or under-active. 1) We need to get a stable light exposure routine going. That means when it is day, you don't spend your time somewhere that looks like its night, and vice versa. 2) We need to stop losing energy uselessly. This means changing our lives to avoid futile confrontations, and manage stress properly so we don't have bottled up feelings festering inside for years and years. This makes true rest possible and increases the quality of sleep. 3) We need to identify complementary energy fields and enjoy them. This means you find out, or remember the people, places, activities and even foods that you enjoy deeply, that energize you and you include them in your life all over again. This keeps you supplied with fresh energy supplies while you heal. 4) Rehabilitate the endocrine and nervous systems in the body, so that energy is conserved better and spread around properly. 5) Release energy blocks in the energy field so that energy flow can resume. Also, balance energy surges and drains. I know these might not be all that easy to put into practice, but give them a try and see how you go. Even if you aren't sure your depression is caused by a Pineal Gland dysfunction, you still have a lot to gain from energizing it. The more healthy the Pineal Gland is, the younger the brain assumes our body is, and therefore all the processes related to healthy bones, skin, sexuality etc work at their optimum levels. Hair Care IS Energy Field Care Many years ago a friend told me she suspected there was a scientific reason behind why so many ancient civilizations covered their hair, refused to cut if, or shaved it off as part of religion or martial discipline. The mighty Samson from the Bible lost all his strength when his hair was cut. There are those who wouldn't enter a place of worship with their hair uncovered.. and I could go on and on. The fact of the matter is, there's something about hair that makes it very important when it comes to internal life experience. Hair cells are like special postage stamps released in limited editions only at one time - to mark an occasion perhaps. Every time a hair cell is created, it is structured energetically according the entire energy field at that second, capturing the essential energy flow pattern of the body at that time. This is why the hair is a repository of our 'energy history'. This energy history not only contains information on what physical and emotional challenges we have gone through, but also information about incidents and feelings that we may not have been aware of at the time. Hair Analysis for Holistic Healing has now become one of the most common ways to find and treat previously un-diagnosable conditions (especially in the case of babies and animals - who cannot describe to us what they are feeling inside). We might be oblivious to it mentally, but all of us on this planet know how to innately read others' energy field health just by looking at the person's hair, and innately react to it too. We CANNOT be comfortable near someone whose hair makes warning bells ring somewhere inside us. We can consider someone supremely beautiful because their hair makes us feel something beautiful inside. And its not about color or style, or thickness or thinness. Its about basic health. How to care for your Energy Field, by caring for your hair (and vice-versa); 1) Sleep deep The cells of our hair receive their supply of energy while we are resting or asleep. This is because while we are awake much of our energy goes into breathing, digesting, thinking, and physical work. At rest, and in deep sleep, the nervous system allows excess energy to move to the skin, hair, teeth, nails and bones. To heal both your hair and the energy field, get into a regular sleep schedule (preferably a normal one) and do what you have to do about stress, so that you can sleep deep and restful. 2) Don't expose your hair or head to strong electromagnetic fields or radiation You know how those who go through chemotherapy lose their hair? Its the shock response that makes hair fall out like that. That same shock response happens to us when we are under extreme trauma and stress, undergoing an endocrine re-adjustment (like what happens after you have a baby, or have endocrine/reproductive system surgery), or are exposed to a drastically different energy environment suddenly. We cannot remove shock from our lives, but we can learn to deal with it differently, to be calmer and have faith in ourselves and the divine. We also need to be aware of electromagnetic fields around us and avoid letting our head be exposed to strong electric fields or radiation of any sort. 3) Brush it vigorously every day. Brushing your hair from its root to its tip, is the equivalent of massaging the entire body energetically. Every hair has its own energy field happening, and when it gets untangled and combed out, it releases any extra energy and relaxes again. Enid Blyton's repeated advice to anyone was 'Brush your hair a 100 times in the night and a 100 times in the morning.' According to 'Malory Towers' stories, this little exercise, in the long run, makes a girl more confident and successful in school. I can only agree. If your energy field is in good health, the endocrine system releases all the right hormones and pheromones - which means a healthy body image and healthy 'real' relationships. 4) Watch the chemicals I was very surprised when a patient told me she'd done 'chemical rebonding' to make her curly hair straight and the process seemed to make her remember things from her past she had swept under the carpet. It turned out to be a rather difficult but extremely illuminating experience for her. It happened because chemicals can change the basic structure of our hair cells besides affecting them energetically and through them, the whole energy field. The treatment my friend Sheela took, changed the cell structure of her hair cells and as a result her entire energy field got shook up and threw out old energies. These brought up locked up memories. So this chemical reaction had some positives to it, but not many chemical reactions with hair do. Most strong shampoos - especially the detergent based ones - affect the layer of cells on the surface of hair and deplete valuable natural proteins that make hair strong. Watch what you expose your hair to, you're exposing your entire energy field to it! The good news is, if you want to refresh your entire energy field, you can do it by just refreshing your hair! You know what makes your hair refreshed, do it and do it again and again. 5) Exercise your energy field This is great for hair, because every time you exercise the energy field, you refresh hair cells. How do you exercise your energy field? (1) By breathing slow and deep and holding the air in (and then out) for as long as possible. (2) By exercising the body in general AND (3) By stimulating energy points on the body. While our entire bodies are covered with energy points, the areas special to hair health are in the nails and teeth. This is because these are connected up together and exercising one, causes fresh energy to flow to the other as well. One of the simplest ways to rejuvenate hair cells is to rub the nails of both hands against each other for 5-6 minutes a few times a day. Those who do this regularly have amazing healthy beautiful hair. Case Study: Joe's healing from Attention Deficit Disorder Joe, 45, suffered with acute Attention Deficit Disorder all his life. His mother was also diagnosed with ADD and the two of them helped each other get through he day. As part of the consultation process, Joe told me he'd always faced disappointments because every time he really wanted to do something, his ADD would come in the way and stop him. He couldn't get through school because of this, gave up his dream of becoming a pilot or flight instructor and eventually it meant living a life where everything had to be written down and followed like a map. Not an enjoyable life at all. He said, "Intelligence is the ability to follow a thought through to a conclusion. And I cannot seem to focus that long on anything. I'm doomed to this grey zone unless my brain starts focussing again." Fed up of living below what he knew was his true potential, Joe began to use alternative therapies to deal with ADD. He took the ayurvedic herb 'Brahmi' famous for rejuvenating memory and brain function, once a day. He began to practice the breathing exercises described on the 'ADD page' and also took prescription Energy Medicine. 2 days after starting out on the Energy Medicine, Joe noticed his hands and feet looking redder, like blood was rushing to them after a long time. A few days later he noticed himself noticing the color of the drapes in his room for the first time. Not only did he notice them, he was able to focus on the thought long enough to remember helping his Mom put them up. Little things like this kept happening - he was able to remember names of kids he went to school with and do the newspaper crossword. 2 months later, Joe decided to sign up for an evening college course (his job didn't give him much space for mental activity). He did, and finished it a year later with a 'Distinction'. I don't know where Joe is right now, but I'm sure he's doing well. Its not that difficult to rejuvenate and re-energize the body for recovery from even ADD or ADHD. All it takes is coming back to the natural ways of breathing, sleeping and eating.
