Myrrh was one of the first herbs whose names I knew. It was the mysterious third gift given by Magii who had travelled a long distance to find and visit the baby Jesus and his parents. Myrrh had to be something clever, I supposed, considering it was the three 'wise men' who had given it. It was easy to see why Gold was one of the gifts - wealth or money to use in emergencies, Frankincense I understood because it was used in the church and in our home as incense, a 'holy' herb. Myrrh I just didn't get. Especially when years later I found it was one of the essential components of Egyptian mummifying technique. Someone suggested it was gifted to Jesus for his future embalming - not a very nice thing to do at someone's birth, I thought.

As a teenager, I was utterly mystified when my teacher told me to get some Myrrh for my next recipe. I didn't even know Myrrh was available in the market at the time! It turned out we were making an energy medicine for a person suffering with severe burns and some of these to areas so far beneath the skin that any external medicine was not going to be able to reach there. After the medicine was made, - a very strong one that had to have immediate effect if the man was going to recover really - my teacher and I sat near to watch. We were in the Emergency ward of a big public hospital and the very air reeked of burning and blood and antiseptic and everything that I thought would increase the pain of anyone with burns. I myself was getting rather upset and traumatized just being there.

And then to my utter surprise, the patient my teacher had just treated took a very deep breath, like a long deep sigh and stretched out his leg. His mother moved his arms into a comfortable position and he fell asleep. He fell into such a deep sleep we realized there was no reason to wait around anymore. We gave the remaining medicine to the mother and left.

Over the years I learnt that Myrrh was an amazing pain-killer, comforter and supporter of healing in the tissues of the body, especially those hard to reach through external medicine. The amazing thing is it is not one of the herbs or medicines that causes the body to blank out during the healing or have anaesthetic properties, instead it increases awareness keeps the brain alert and in doing so causes real de-stressing and comfort instead of a temporary 'warm fuzzy' feeling.

In herbal extract or essential oil form it relieves pain, is great for skin repair (always diluted) and general tissue healing.

In its pure Energy essence form, Myrrh is so much more. In the tradition of Energy Science I am trained in, it is simply called the 'Cave'. This is because it has been used by energy Healers for eons now to neutralize the effects of working with opposing energies. Working with energy fields can expose the energy field of a human to considerable strain managing the different strong energies they treat and use to treat.

Using Myrhh after it all, is like going into a cave where the entire energy field gets gently blocked off from the surrounding energy field for a little while. This happens because the energy field of Myrrh causes the center of our own energy fields to vibrate faster, thus drawing our awareness inward. This gives the body and mind time to balance and recuperate from the strong effects it experienced before before it continues its normal activities merging in with and reacting with the surrounding environment. For a healer or anyone who has to meet widely variant energies on a regular basis (like travelers, and people living in big cities) this is invaluable rest and rejuvenation.

This is also one of the reasons Myrrh was used for embalming or mummification. It literally blocks off the energy field from the surroundings, so it need not be affected by the energies around. This gives the actual body the chance to stay in its current state for longer.

Myrrh is an energy essence that focuses energy in the cells towards the boundaries and then suspends energy there. This causes the parts of the body that are in pain to get surrounded or cushioned by the energy right there, rather than asking for energy from other parts of the body. This helps those who are in pain but must keep a clear head, to lessen trauma or stay safe or protect others in a dangerous environment.

This property of Myrrh makes it possible for Pain relief without causing a deadening of sensation or lack of energy anywhere else in the body.



In my Energy Medicine practice I use the Energy Essence of Myrhh in the following situations;

1) Pain Relief
(Especially when the exact area of injury is hard to pin-point or is very wide spread) From Angina Pain to Nerve pain (neuropathy), Fibromyalgia, Migraine and Arthritis and Rheumatism, the energy essence of Myrrh is great for pain relief and has anti-inflammatory properties, in some cases completely replacing conventional drug painkillers and healers.

2) Recovery from Chronic or Acute Skin Injury, Burns, Inflammation and Infection
Not all skin wounds can be treated easily externally or internally. Many of the conventional medicine options have side effects and cause burning. The energy essence of Myrrh relieves burning and itching sensations and causes energy to 'huddle up' in the affected area so that the cells have access to as much energy as they need to heal quick. The healing is so quick and often leaves no marks, surprising for people who are used to scarring deep and for life.

3) Heart Attack Prevention
For those who have already been diagnosed with Cardiac weakness or who have been exposed to strong drugs for years and years, Myrrh taken regularly in its energy essence form keeps the Heart cushioned with local energy supplies so that in the case it has an electrical malfunction or shock, it can immediately stabilize instead of moving into a cardiac arrest.

4) Stroke Prevention and Recovery
Strokes are caused by the blood supply between the Heart and Brain getting disrupted. In keeping the Heart supplied with local energy supplies, and keeping the Brain similarly stocked up, Myrrh prevents strokes. When taken after a stroke, it helps the nervous system recuperate quickly decreasing the chances of long term disabilities.

5) Spinal Cord Healing and Repair
The Spinal Cord is the lifeline of our body, keeping us connected up and pretty much running the whole mind-body communication. For all this it is rather delicate and rather difficult to heal considering it is surrounded by bone (spinal column). The energy essence of Myrrh however,being carried by the energy field instead of by blood, bone or tissue, has no problem reaching here, cushoning off 'dry ends' and in doing so helping it heal. The Spinal Cord is essentially a nerve and when it is put out of pain because of being surrounding by energy, it automatically heals.

6) Removing energy blocks anywhere in the body Myrrh does this simply by making energy move quickly from the center to the boundaries of the body. This automatically causes the nerves and muscles to stretch out and relax. The energy blocks in the energy field simply dissolve to allow energy to move out towards the periphery of the energy field. This helps those with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Repetitive Strain Injury, Cervical Spondylosis, Learning Disorders (energy blocks in the Brain) and trouble with speech or motor control and so on.

7) Emotional Healing
In our times, people everywhere have to heal emotionally on the go. We hardly have time to spend the evening watching the sun set, and unwinding. Many people don't even have a place to sit down and just be if they need to. In such harassed times, emotional healing can be difficult on a daily basis and many people tend to keep it all for years later after the children have grown up and left home and so on. In these situations, its difficult to just get a break from the environment and Myrrh can help in these situations - by just cocooning us for a little while from the surroundings. It does this by raising the energy frequency in our center so that our awareness gets attracted inwards for a while. This is valuable for making us aware of what and how we are feeling inside and this automatically helps us heal.

8) Recovery from Sensory and Nervous Shock
Myrrh helps in bringing the nervous system frequency back to normal and stabilizing it. It also reduces the effects of strong electric, sensory or nervous shock by immediately pulling awareness back into the center. The effects of shock and trauma caused by shock sometimes stay within human energy fields for years and years silently causing much suffering and unexplainable emotional pain. Myrrh brings these to awareness so they can be released and the person healed.

You can take advantage of Myrrh's healing and pain relieving properties by simply dropping a drop or two of essential oil of Myrrh into a cup of hot water and holding it near your face or body. This gives relief dramatically from acute stress, pain in the head or back especially. Rubbing the essential oil of Myrrh on your wrists, belly button or the insides of the ankles and feet also helps. When it is done regularly it slowly builds the body's resistance, immunity and aids energy field balance and recovery from long term stress, trauma and shock.

In its powerful energy essence form (such as I use to make Therapeutic Energy Medicine) Myrrh when not balanced with its opposite energies can make a person a little too stoic and/or over-confident. I usually blend it with other energy essences that build energy field resistance so that Myrrh's benefits can last longer and therefore cause deeper healing. These are Gold, Frankincense (would you believe it!) and Cedar (called 'Deodar' in the Himalayan Forests) if the patient is above the age of 70 (to slow down tissue degeneration) or Nardys (Spikenard) in cases of very severe internal injury.

The energy essence of Gold builds energy field resistance. The energy essence of Frankincense removes blocks in the energy field and amplifies vital or core energy in the body. When Myrrh is added along with these, the human energy field so treated becomes highly stable, energized, and cocooned at the same time. I wonder if the three wise men were simply giving Jesus the ingredients to one of the oldest forms of first-aid and all-weather healing. This combination of energies carried in oil was called MERH in Sumeria and Egypt. In India and Tibet, it was called different things in the hundreds of different languages. The name by which it is called in the tradition I am trained in is 'Marrhum' which means 'balm' or 'Pahadi Marrhum' or 'Balm from the Mountains' ( Hindi/Sanskrit).
