Holistic Treatment of Insomnia and Sleep Disorders
Sleep in the body is largely controlled by the Nervous System cells in the middle of the Brain Stem. From within the body, this area is very close to the back wall of the mouth. The cells here are extremely important, because they receive information from the rest of the body on when to sleep, and give out the sleep 'order' to the rest of the Nervous System. The nerves and brain then all start lowering their vibratory electric frequency (as can be seen on the ECG) and we go to sleep.
The mess ups with sleep happen when for some reason or another, this 'go to sleep' order is not given at the right times, OR the nervous system does not obey this command and continues vibrating at 'waking' level frequencies. Either way, there are three things to be done to bring balance back into the sleep-waking schedule.
1) Rehabilitate the Nervous System, so that it is able to follow orders to sleep and wake up.
2) Repair Energy Field blocks and drains so that the cells of the Reticular Formation and the Brain Stem in general revive themselves and function normally.
3) Balance the Energy Field to balance Endocrine Function - which is the origin of the 'Go to Sleep' order.
1) Rehabilitate the Nervous System, so that it is able to follow orders to sleep and wake up.
This bit is easy. To rehabilitate the Nervous System, all we have to do is eat things that contain the nutrition our nerves need to be physically healthy, provide fresh oxygen supplies, and give the nervous system time and rest to heal.
Foods that are good for our nerves are most nuts, fruits, and some herbs - like Brahmi (Centella Asiatica), Gingko (Gingko Biloba) and Sage. You'll know when something is 'brain food' when you find yourself more clear headed than heavy in the stomach after eating it. Besides, just eating well so that you feel satisfied is a great help because it reduces stress significantly, and the nervous system needs some simple nutrients that are found in all traditional food systems. Nerves require calcium to work well, so calcium foods like milk, yoghurt and lime juice could help.
Providing good oxygen supplies to the Brain and Nervous System, is a matter of breathing in fresh air and holding it in long enough for the blood to absorb lots of it. When we breathe quick, only a little oxygen gets absorbed and this has to be shared by the whole body. When we breathe slowly and deep, filling our lungs, our body gets more oxygen, and since 30% of all oxygenin the body is used by the Brain, it means our Nervous system's chances of getting fresh air is a whole lot higher.
Giving the nervous system time and rest, can be difficult sometimes. Our Nervous System is not affected so much by sudden trauma and stress as it is by a constant stress level. Rehabilitating the Nervous System, really means CHANGING OUR HABITS to deal with stress and strong emotions then and there, and getting it over with, rather than waiting for the holidays to deal with things. If you have insomnia or a sleep disorder, it means you need to change your stress management method - it is not working now and won't in the future either. Us humans, we can handle extreme stress for a few hours a day, and then we need our deep and proper rest.
2) Repair Energy Field blocks and drains so that the cells of the Reticular Formation and the Brain Stem in general revive themselves and function normally.
There are two ways around this one. The first is a yogic exercise that involves standing on your head. You hold your head in your palms (fingers inter-linked) and get a friend to gently hold your legs up till you're upside down. You could also simply lie on your back on your bed, and let your upper body bend backward, gently over the side so your head is upside down. Or you can simply bend down and touch your toes and stay bent over for as long as you can. You get the picture - just anything where the blood flows down to your head, and your spine is not twisted or forced. This exercise if done faithfully once or twice a day for a few minutes each time, is a great blood circulation aid. Because of the shift from usual posture, the energy field has to re-align itself, and automatically begins to balance out by releasing blocked up energy.

3) Balance the Energy Field to balance Endocrine Function - which is the origin of the 'Go to Sleep' order.
The Endocrine Glands get their inputs directly from the basic energy field pattern of any body. The 'times of our lives', our reaction to environment and stimuli, our responses and reaction to emotions, stress and so on are mostly controlled by our Endocrine Glands, which in turn are controlled by the electromagnetic field our body functions within. To clear up this energy field, means clearing up the communication channels so the endocrine glands can work properly.
Now, the Endocrine Glands 'speak' with chemicals called hormones and pheromones etc. The hormone 'Melatonin' is specifically responsible for the 'Go to Sleep' order. If there is an imbalance in its production by the Pineal Gland (located in the forehead) then the Nervous System just continues being awake, waiting for further instructions.
An artificial method to induce sleep by taking in melatonin from an external source is popular for being effective, but it in no way solves the real problem - which is an energy field imbalance.
In the Energy Field (the area of Holistic Healing we specialize in), Insomnia or Sleep Disorders are seen as the result of energy blocks in the area of the Brain Stem called the 'Reticular Formation'. The tension and blocks here cause the energy supply to the brain (and the rest of the nervous system) to be in spurts and surges. This causes a huge amount of trauma to the brain cells which grow tired with the fluctuation and which could actually be deprived of fresh energy for inordinately long periods at a time.
There is also usually an energy conversion imbalance happening in this area. For the brain to function properly there needs to be an ongoing smooth conversion between mental/emotional energy and creative/perceptive or spiritual energy. While mental energy is based on the body's actual experience and impulse, it converts into spiritual energy when it meets cells that hold genetic information or what we call 'nature or super conscious programming'. This is what makes us have an IDEA, or creative rush, impulse, or even hormonal rush. This conversion needs to happen regularly so all the brain cells are exercised and not just the bits that process information.
